Firefox ditched the PPC, though I could use it's last version (but again, it gets older as time goes on.).

Unfortunately, Opera no longer supports PPC and I didn't want to go backwards to an old version.

First, I went to my old standby, Opera.

I find that these days all the browsers are fast enough that I don't feel slowed down by them (aside from Safari with Flash stuff, which loaded slowly.) The differences between browsers seems to be in fractions of a second, and without bionic eyes I can't tell the difference anymore. I was also hoping to find something that would let me use the URL bar to search as well (a little thing, but handy.) I know it's not their priority, so I don't blame them, but I started to notice pages not loading correctly, missing "submit" buttons, and boggy performance with Flash (surprise surprise.) Perhaps it works like a dream for you, but there were enough errors for me to be troubled. But lately I haven't felt like Apple's been putting their heart into making it work great on PowerPC's.

I didn't do it for reasons of wanderlust I've stuck with Safari for a long time. Personally, I wanted to get away from the obvious choice of Safari. I have 4 GB of RAM, if that makes a difference to you. I use a Dual-core G5 2.3, but I also have a Powerbook G4 1.67 to test things on. How long would browsers continue to support the old Power PC's? Luckily, they are still available, but as options dwindle I decided to take stock of the flavors available for those of us who still feel our old computers are plenty of computing power. Things were fine until the Intel sell-out, which was about the time I started to feel the wind shifting. I could have kept using the old browsers (which I did, for a while) but they became less and less functional (not to mention secure.) I was forced to switch to OSX, largely for this reason. You could watch the options dwindle: Netscape, IE.each began to crap out when it came to supporting the "Classic" operating systems. What killed it for me (aside from my friend's skeptical faces) was the lack of a decent browser.

Still, what's wrong with it? A computer is a tool, and as long as that tool is able to meet my needs what's the difference? I actually stuck with OS 8.6 for a long time because I thought it was stable, I had software to run on it, and it only sipped CPU power.

Although 10.4Fx will tell you when an update is available, you must download updates manually at this time.It's sad to think that using a seven year old computer makes me "old school," but in technology terms that stretch of time is Methusilan.
